EDITING

Since 2011, I have worked with both seasoned and first-time authors to hone and revise their manuscripts. As a developmental editor, I focus on voice, pacing, and story arc, helping authors to reach their full potential and ready their books for publication.

It has been my privilege to work on a wide range of books, from award-winning memoirs to groundbreaking essay collections.

Highlights include:

The Woman in the Photograph: The Search for My Mother's Pastby Mani Feniger. Feniger's account of unearthing her mother's lost German-Jewish past won the 2013 Best Memoir Award from the Bay Area Independent Publisher's Association.

• Love InshAllah: The Secret Love Lives of American Muslim Women, by Ayesha Mattu & Nura Maznavi (Soft Skull Press). Due to the success of this critically acclaimed essay collection, Mattu & Maznavi published a sequel.

In addition to editing, I also offer follow-up support services. This might include collaborating on a book proposal, working on promotion, or guiding an indie author through the complex process of self-publishing.

MANUSCRIPT ASSESSMENTS

If you're in need of honest, detailed feedback, I offer manuscript assessments. In a five-page written critique, I assess the manuscript's overall strengths and weaknesses, analyze plot and character development, and make concrete suggestions for improvement. I also include a follow-up phone call.

Please note: I am currently on hiatus from taking on new clients and projects as I complete work on my novel.
